  2. We are recruiting: 2 post doc positions . The UK has an ageing population, with currently 12 million people aged 65 and over and projected growth to 17.5 million by 2040. Falls and fall related injuries are a major health issue facing this group with significant long-term physical and mental damage, which cause further decline in self-care abilities and participation in physical and social activities. According to the World Health Organisation, falls are the leading cause of injury and deaths amongst people aged 65 and above, with half occurring in their own home. Our vision in this EPSRC funded project is to transform the home environment into a safer place for older people, which can promote independent living and improve the sense of well-being. In particular, we aim to reduce the number of falls and severity of the resulting injuries by developing low-cost sustainable floorings with integrated passive fall prevention, monitoring and protection capabilities. The project involves a multi-disciplinary group of academics in Engineering and Public Health with strong patient and public involvement. We are looking to recruit two post docs . Postdoc Position in Soft Robotic Locomotion Control and Learning

The Center for Soft Robotics in SDU Biorobotics at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a fully-funded 3-year Postdoctoral position in Soft Robotics. The starting date for the position is February 1, 2023, or soon thereafter. The workplace will be at SDU campus in Odense.About the project
Snakes navigate with ease through narrow passages by moving in straight lines rather than waving their spine. This project is focused on the design, fabrication, proprioceptive feedback control, and neural learning of a soft robotic crawler to mimic the snake’s rectilinear gait. Inspired by this unique locomotion skill, you will contribute to the development of an autonomous soft crawling robot that can learn to move efficiently through complex terrains. This project requires system-level development of hardware and software to integrate actuation, sensing, power supply, and computation in a unified soft robotic system.
